Games

Two games I built for my own sake. No account, no ads, no tracking. They work just as well on a phone as on a computer.

Both were made together with an AI assistant. I decided how they should work, played them through, said what was wrong and what was missing, and went round after round until they were the way I wanted them. No ready-made game engines or libraries are involved — just the game itself, as it turned out after many corrections.

♠ Klondike solitaire

The whole game sits in a single file. Save it and it works with no internet at all — in a cabin, on a plane, anywhere.

Drag and drop, or one tap to move. Hints when you are stuck, undo and redo, night mode and several themes. The sound is generated in the browser as you play. You can draw one card or three, and ask for deals that are actually winnable.

♞ Sjakkmester

A complete chess game with its own engine. No off-the-shelf chess engine involved — it works out its own moves, and the rules are verified against standard positions so castling, en passant and promotion are exactly right.

Play against someone else on the same screen, or against the computer at six levels from beginner to grandmaster. The weakest levels are built to lose in a human way — they miss tactics rather than playing at random, so beating them means something.

New to chess? There are 17 lessons with boards you can click through. As you play, the coach rates every move you make, explains what it achieves and shows what would have been better. Plus hints, undo, a clock, PGN export, a 3D view and six board designs.

About downloading

The games are yours to keep

The solitaire game is one self-contained HTML file. Download it, put it wherever you like, and open it in a browser. It needs nothing else and works without internet.

The chess game is nine files in folders. Unpack the zip and open index.html inside the folder to start playing.

Both downloads come straight from GitHub, which packs the code into a zip on the spot. When I update a game there, the download is updated at the same moment.

As an app on your phone

The solitaire game can be installed as a real app. Open the GitHub version on your phone and choose Install app in the Chrome menu, or Add to Home Screen under the Share button in Safari. You get your own icon, and the game works offline afterwards.

The chess game can be added to the home screen the same way, but for now it becomes a shortcut rather than an installed app.
